The Williamhill.com Greyhound Derby got off to a great start at Wimbledon Stadium last weekend and it was Razldazl Jayfkay who put in the performance of the round to become the competition favourite, overtaking Boher Paddy in the sponsors’ betting market.

However, after drama at the traps it was Boher Paddy that caught many a watchers’ eye, with Lister’s charge showing battling style to make the qualifying places.
This duo currently head the betting with the sponsors at 6-1 and 7-1 and connections will surely be satisfied with their second-round draw.
Blue Artisan jumped to the top end of the betting market with an impressive run on Saturday. The Harry Williams’s-trained youngster has already shown an affinity for Plough Lane with his Racing Post Juvenile win and was etched in plenty of notebooks after his first-round success.
Droopys Oscar and Blonde Snapper ranked amongst the most high-profile of the first-round exits, finding trouble at the first bends and failing to recover.
Keith Hallinan, General Manager at Wimbledon Stadium said: “The racing was incredibly entertaining and kept the crowd enthralled all night. The crowd exceeded expectations and there was a terrific atmosphere at the track, it was a great start to what is looking to be a fantastic competition.”
Kate Miller from sponsors William Hill, said: ”as always, the Derby has delivered from the outset with some sparkling first-round performances. In a repetition of last year, Dolores Ruth is the word on everyone’s lips and the gem from the Emerald Isle looks the one to beat.”
The second round of the Williamhill.com Greyhound Derby gets underway at Wimbledon Stadium on Friday the 20th and Saturday 21st May. You can find out more about the competition and get an admission deal at lovethedogs.co.uk

Razldazl Jayfkay shot to 3-1 favouritism from 5-1 with the sponsors for the williamhill.com Greyhound Derby after toasting the track record in a blistering 28.08s on Saturday night.
Dolores’s star is now 1-5 to continue his unbeaten progression through the third round of the £125,000 competition when he steps out in the second heat next weekend.
A short time prior, the previous 28.17s record had almost taken a shaving when Judicial Ruling landed his heat in impressive fashion, and was promoted to 8-1 from 16-1 with Hills for the final. Michael O’Donovan’s charge is 4-6 to crown the round three finale off with victory.
The sponsors quote 7-4 that the track record will be toppled again during the competition, with a further 7-2 available for the 28s barrier to be broken at any point.
Reigning champ Taylors Sky has been eased by Hills to 7-1 from 6-1 for the final, and is odds-against at 7-4 for the first time in 13 races when he takes on Jaytee Pedro (11-4), Barefoot Allstar (7-2), and Young Sid (7-2) in the sixth contest.
William Hill spokeswoman Lucy Rhodes said “With a show-stopping performance like that, Razldazl Jayfkay must have his opponents running scared, not to mention us! His bid to make amends for last year’s unfortunate exit are getting stronger by the week with Taylors Sky becoming easy to back. However, underestimate the master Charlie Lister OBE at your peril!”
