Razldazl Banjo to run in The Racing Post Juvenile, live on SKY.
THE Sky Sports greyhound schedule for the first half of 2014 has been announced and it is, as expected, significantly expanded compared to this year.
There are 15 dates through to the end of June which fits in with the aspirations of Bags, the programme commissioners, to have around 30 broadcasts during the full year compared to 22 this year – when there were no shows in January or February while negotiations over financing were completed.
The first of the Sky fixtures will take place at Romford on Tuesday, January 14 for the Coral Coronation Cup, and the cameras will be in Birmingham on Wednesday, January 29 when Hall Green’s Local Parking Security Prestige returns to the TV screens.
There are two fixtures in February, the first at Sheffield, with the feature event to be confirmed, on Tuesday, February 4, followed by a new event for the north-east, the Pinpoint Festival of Racing, at Newcastle seven days later.
As is now traditional, the following month begins with the Racing Post Juvenile/Springbok double header at Wimbledon on Tuesday, March 4, followed by the Trainers’ Championship on Tuesday, March 25 at a venue to be confirmed.
There are also two live-on-Sky Sports fixtures in April, the Pinpoint Arc at Swindon on Wednesday 16, followed by the Coral Regency at Hove on Thursday 24.
An earlier William Hill Greyhound Derby due to 2014 being a World Cup year sees May particularly busy, with full coverage on Sky Sports commencing with the third round on Saturday, May 17 which will be available behind the red button.
Full dedicated channel coverage begins with the quarter-finals (May 20) followed by the semis on Saturday, May 24 and the £200,000-to-the-winner final seven days later.
There is also plenty on offer in June with three fixtures, the first on Wednesday 4 at a venue to be confirmed, followed by the Betfred Gymcrack at Kinsley on Tuesday, June 10 and finally the tri-distance Coors Three Steps To Victory at Sheffield on Tuesday, June 24.
Commenting on the new schedule, Bags chairman Tom Kelly said: “We’ve had a positive response from the industry following the coverage this year and are pleased to be in a position to continue this into 2014.
“Everyone has pulled together again to make this happen and help provide an exciting mix of competitions in the first six months.”
The programme is produced for Bags by SIS, whose George Irvine [MD of SIS betting] said: “The feedback has been really positive from viewers at home and punters in the shops, and we will be looking to build on the show’s success next year.”
Sky Sports’ coverage of greyhound racing is simulcast into betting shops as part of the Bags service.
