With the Frightful Flash Kennels McCalmont Cup due to commence at Kilkenny on Friday of next week, a number of contenders are being trialled around the track currently while a few more will be in action in tomorrow night’s card at the St James’ Park venue

Tomorrow’s card is an all graded affair but there is a Buster Draw organised  by Sorcha Roantree who is raising money for her forthcoming climb up Kilimanjaro with all proceeds going to Pieta House.

Word from Tom Kinane is that entries are coming in steadily for the McCalmont which will be an A1/2 (Bg) affair but a few more are required to fill the required 48. The winner will receive €5,000.

By the way the track will be closed on Monday and trials will instead be staged on Tuesday. Entries for the McCalmont will be taken in the Racing Office on Tuesday morning or can be phoned to Tom Kinane on 087 7572304.

Also being run next Friday is the Kirby Memorial Trial Stake while Wednesday’s card will include the heats of the 24 dog €750 Co. Carlow & Sevenhouses Coursing Bred Open Unraced 325.

On Wednesday 26th the 36 dog €1,400 Flower Power Garden Cent4re Unraced N2/3 will be run and then two nights later the 24 dog €1,000 A4 (Bg) 525 will commence.

On Friday, April 4th the first5 round of both the 12 dog €620 D1/2 (Bg) 725 and the 12 dog €600 A3 (Bg)( 525 will be run.

Finally, news of this year’s Connolly’s Red Mills Champion Open Unraced which will have a winner’s prize of €5,000. It will be for 48 dogs (May ’12) and will commence on Friday, May 2nd with the final to be run on Sunday, May 25th.
