SATURDAY night saw the completion of round two of the Ladbrokes.com Irish Greyhound Derby at Shelbourne Park and fastest qualifier on the night was Dolores Ruth’s Makeshift, who took heat 15 by four lengths in a sizzling 29.56sec.

Tyrur Big Mike had looked impressive when winning the previous heat in 29.74sec as did Thurlsbeg Joker when clocking 29.70sec in the third of tonights qualifiers. Colourful Champ had no trouble in landing odds of 2-7 in the opener clocking 29.80sec.

Heat two on the night (heat 10) saw BurnEm Up win by a neck in a modest 30.16sec while Milly Marina’s 30.06sec success in heat 12 was no more than workmanlike. Local Dee Jay recorded a useful 29.84 in beating the well-supported Monlesa Alsatio in the thirteenth and finally Mesedo Blue took thelast in 29.98sec.

HOVE staged the first round heats of the Coral Brighton Belle and fastest o the six winners was Coral Sussex Cup finalist Spinkys Nod who set the benchmark in the opener with 29.82sec. Despite winning by ten lengths Blue Bee only recorded 30.20sec in taking the second qualifier. Pine Isle came from behind to land the third heat in 29.85sec.

Heat four saw a welcome return to winning ways for 2009 Oaks winner Shaws Dilemma (29.88sec) while the penultimate eliminator saw a modest winning time of 30.31sec for Millwards Dream.  Boherna Blackie completed the round when landing the lucky last in 29.87sec.

** TICTAC JET produced an impressive performance in heat two of the Pinpoint Recruitment Monkey Standard over 435m at Pelaw Grange, Trevor Jameson senior’s local cracking out and making all to score in 26.07sec. Other winners were Pennys Stinger (26.24sec) and Lampard (26.44sec).

The 590m Pinpoint Recuitment Monkey Stayers heats were a triumph for local handler Christine Kidd, who sent out both heat winners in the shape of litter-brothers Welton Storm (36.53sec) and Welton Stream (36.68sec) and also qualified Welton Oliver for good measure.
